The Desktop Organizer lets you click any icon on your virtual desktop and officially file it into the Virtual Trash, complete with a filing number, a destination, and a certified retrieval estimate.
The icon is not removed. The icon has never been removed. The icon will not be removed in the future. What changes is the paperwork, and the paperwork changes completely.
Each filing briefly animates the icon out of existence and then, through a process the Bureau refers to only as "re-manifestation," animates it directly back into the exact same spot. This is by design, not a bug: a tidy desktop and a complete desktop are, for Bureau purposes, the same desktop.
Your Cleanliness Index climbs with every filing, approaching — but by rigorous internal policy never reaching — one hundred percent. Your Items Still Present count, meanwhile, remains exactly as high as it has always been, because it is a count of icons, and no icon has gone anywhere.
Every certificate includes a retrieval estimate. These estimates are accurate. Retrieval is always available immediately, since the item was never filed anywhere to begin with — the Bureau simply prefers to phrase this as a multi-lifetime waiting period, for tone.
